Senior Cat Care In Wayne

Emphasizing Your Cat’s Wellness Care

Throughout Their Life Will Significantly Increase Their Lifespan.

How do you know when your cat is a “senior cat”? The answer is that there is no specific age at which a cat becomes “senior.” Individual cats age at different rates.

As a general guide, however, the American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP) has suggested the following age ranges:

Mature to middle-aged: 7 to 10 years
Senior: 11 to 14 years
Geriatric: 15+ years

As your cat ages, changes begin to take place in their bodies that can affect their overall health, well-being and comfort. Our goal is for you and your cat to enjoy the longest, healthiest life together.

Senior Cat Wellness Services in Wayne, NJ

At Tri County Animal Hospital in Wayne, we recommend a comprehensive exam at least every 6 months for your senior cat. Depending upon your cat’s health and age, we may also recommend routine annual blood profiles and a urinalysis to look for potential health concerns.

Cats hide their health issues, so you need to be watchful of your senior cat. Please call us if you notice any of the following signs to schedule an appointment to have your cat evaluated:

  • Weight loss
  • Decrease in appetite
  • Bad breath or drooling
  • Increased appetite, especially if accompanied by weight loss
  • Changes to hair coat quality
  • Increased vocalization or frantic behavior, especially if accompanied by a ravenous appetite
  • Excess or change in urination frequency, volume, etc.
  • Increased water intake
  • Decreased activity level, increased stiffness or difficulty grooming
  • Apparent pain when your cat moves or is handled
  • Sudden tendency to bite or jump from your lap when you brush or pet your cat
  • Any vomiting, abnormal stool or decreased frequency of bowel movements
  • A new lump or growth, especially if it appears to increase in size quickly
  • Depression or listless behavior

If you are looking for a veterinarian look no further. This place literally is amazing and clean. Dr. Torres and Dr. Silberman are the best! I remember bringing my kitten the first time hysterically crying because I never owned a pet before but they made sure to calm me down and reassure me that everything was going to be ok. The staff is one of the friendliest and most professional I've ever met. 10/10 will literally exceed all your expectations.

We took our nervous 2-year old cat (Hobbes) to Tri-County Animal Hospital for the first time, and the experience we had with this facility was excellent. From the initial call of setting up the appointment, the staff came across as professional and kind. It's not always fun taking a cat to the vet, but the staff were warm towards Hobbes and did their best to make her feel comfortable.

They absolutely get it ! The best Veterinarians, the best support staff. I moved this past year and decided to try another animal hospital closer to me. Bad mistake, lesson learned ! What a relief to be back where quality of care and expertise resides.

From my first consultation with Dr Torres, over the phone, she was asking loads of questions trying to get as much information about Charly. That left an incredible impression on me as other doctors would just rush me off the phone. I also can't say enough about everyone else that works there. So glad I brought my girls to you.

I've had wonderful experiences at Tri-County. The vets are empathetic, caring, patient, thorough, and funny, too. Things are explained to me and I am given options. The staff are also friendly, helpful, engaging, and are always glad to see us. Very happy to have the Tri-County team care for my dogs!

Wonderful Doctors and staff at this hospital. Both Dr. Silberman and Dr. Torres have been very attentive, thorough and knowledgeable with my fur baby. Also need to mention that this is the only animal hospital that I have been to that doesn't smell like one. That is always the first thing I notice when I first walk in the door and tells me that the hospital is kept clean. Love this. It's a bit of a trek for me but so worth the trip. I highly recommend!!
